(Summary: Obama gave $832,000 to ACORN; another $200,000 through the (Bill Ayers) Woods Fund, and he trained ACORN’s Project Vote affiliate, and Obama was an attorney who represented ACORN, and ACORN endorses Obama.)
It’s important to know that Obama has been heavily involved with ACORN, which is a housing advocacy group that also leads very ambitious voter-registration drives through its namesake and Project Vote. It also happens to be a notoriously corrupt organization that has been involved in scandalous episodes of voter fraud (numerous accounts) and also embezzlement (1 million dollars), and they are the sort of aggressive group that protests outside of mayor’s homes, in bank lobbies, inside private meetings, etc.
First, it is good to know that Obama has contributed $800,000 to ACORN. (It is also known that congressional democrats-amazingly- tried to insert an ACORN earmark in the recent bail out bill.) Second, Obama has worked with Acorn’s Project Vote (when he was a community organizer) as a director who trained ACORN workers and he was also an attorney for ACORN, suing big banks to make sure they provided home loans to poorer people in the communtiy. Obama, through Project Vote, registered citizens in Chicago to help shift elections, and ACORN certainly helped Obama with votes to get him elected in Chicago. Also, when Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund (with Weathermen terrorist William Ayers), he issued over $200,000 in grants to Chicago ACORN. As you can imagine, ACORN endorses Obama and they are helping him by raising money for a massive voter registration turn out. Problem is, they are a dirty group. Members of ACORN seem to get in trouble non-stop and are regularly in the news for some kind of arrest or controversy.
As you might imagine, there is concern that that there will be cheating in the upcoming election, and on the part of Obama and his communtity organizations…like ACORN and its Project Vote. It seems to me that the republicans are aware of this issue. From GOP.com, there is a little dossier on Obama’s connection to ACORN along with good articles: http://www.barackbook.com/Profiles/ACORN.htm I have noticed that the RNC website seems to be on top of instances of Vote Fraud cases in the nation: http://www.gop.com/ycmtu.htm I also see on John McCain’s official website that he and his party have recently launched the Honest and Open Election Committee, which seems to be a group devoted to voter transparency and fairness. So, at the very least, the republicans seem to know very well what they are dealing with as far as Obama’s ACORN goes, which is a mild comfort, but I just want all to be aware of this group and the fact that they do not have a clean reputation and they are actively campaigning for Obama.
